Karen Armstrong on Compassion

By Glenda | March 14, 2009

I highly recommend last night’s discussion on PBS between Bill Moyers and Karen Armstrong, author of numerous books on a variety of world religions, as they discuss Compassion, which Armstrong says is the touchstone of all religions and the key to solving so many of the controversies in the world today. She references ancient as well as modern sources and speaks of her “Charter for Compassion.” Don’t miss this one.

Karen Armstrong is an amazing author and an amazing speaker. Her Charter for Compassion is extremely appropriate for our times and her method of using technology to accomplish these beautiful goals is very insightful.

Karen Armstrong has taken what we try to live every day and said it very succinctly and wisely. What should be an obvious response to others has become so foreign that we hear the incredulity in Moyer’s voice. How different might our world be, if instead of fear and revenge after 9-11, we had started a campaign of understanding and compassion instead of war?
